Every charity board deserves a good secretary. Consider it sorted.

The Committee Room is a small, fair-priced governance support service for UK charity boards, committees, PTAs and PTFAs: minutes done for you, policies kept honest, deadlines chased, and questions answered in plain English.

Run by Rachel Wall, a chartered governance professional (ACG), with 12+ years advising boards and trustees and every piece of work personally reviewed.

Why we exist

We went looking at how boards actually run. It wasn't pretty.

Before starting The Committee Room, we spent time researching how the UK's small charities, committees and PTAs really operate, reading the Charity Commission's own data, sector surveys, and hundreds of conversations in the places where trustees and volunteers talk honestly.

79%of boards in NCVO’s trustee survey carry at least one empty seat
80%of UK voluntary organisations run on under £100,000 a year
£1,700/yrone quote we obtained for board software for a 7-trustee board

The pattern was everywhere: volunteers writing up minutes at 11pm, policies nobody has reviewed since 2019, annual return deadlines tracked in someone's head, and nobody obvious to ask when a quick question came up. Meanwhile the software built for boardrooms is priced for boardrooms, not for a village hall committee with £8,000 a year.

So we built the thing we thought should exist: a friendly, capable outfit that just sorts the governance admin, at prices a small charity can pay, with the useful stuff given away free.

Small charities do some of the most important work in the country, usually run by volunteers giving up their evenings. The help they can get with governance is often expensive, or nowhere to be found.

I've spent more than twelve years advising boards, from international businesses to colleges and small charities, and the rules are the same for all of them. The difference is that big organisations can pay someone to keep on top of it. I started The Committee Room so that smaller ones can have that support too, at a price that makes sense.

A fair deal, on purpose

This is a small business, not a venture-backed startup. It needs to pay for itself, and it will never need to gouge a charity.

  • Our templates are free forever, with no email wall and no strings.
  • Nobody pays per trustee. One price per board, always.
  • You never pay for minutes you're not happy with. On the Minutes Service, you approve first and pay second.
  • If a price is out of reach for your charity, write to us and we'll work something out. We'd rather have you governed well than priced out.

Not sure where to start? Just say hello.

Tell us what's on your mind (a question, a comment, or just your email) and we'll reply, usually within one working day.
