🧭 Know exactly where your board stands

How healthy is your governance, really?

Most boards are confident about their governance — and most have never actually checked. The Health Check measures your charity against the Charity Governance Code and tells you, kindly but honestly, what's strong, what's wobbly, and what to fix first.

£99 · repeat it yearly — many boards make it an annual ritual

How it works

About an hour of your time, a thorough going-over from us.

1

Answer the questionnaire

Around 40 plain-English questions about how your board actually works — meetings, money, people, risk. One person can complete it, or the whole board can argue over it (recommended).

2

Send your key documents

Governing document, latest accounts, a recent set of minutes, your policy list. Whatever exists — gaps are findings, not failures.

3

Get your report

Within five working days: your score against each principle of the Governance Code, the three fixes that matter most, and a practical plan for the rest — written to be read aloud at a board meeting.

What's included

  • Scored assessment against the Charity Governance Code — all seven principles, using the version for smaller charities unless yours is over £1m
  • The Big Three — the fixes that will most improve your governance, with exactly how to do each
  • A full findings list — everything else we spotted, ranked by importance, with plain-English explanations
  • Comparisons that comfort — where you're doing better than most boards your size — because you will be, somewhere
  • A board-ready summary page — designed to be tabled at your next meeting and minuted
  • A repeat-next-year baseline — so the second check shows your trajectory, not just your position
Who sees it? Only you. The report goes to whoever commissioned it, to share with the board as you choose. It's a mirror, not an inspection — the Commission never hears from us.

Fair questions, straight answers

Is this an audit?

No — an audit examines your accounts; this examines how your board governs. It's closer to the governance reviews the Code recommends every three years, done affordably enough to do annually.

What if the report finds serious problems?

Then you'll know — which beats not knowing. The report always comes with the practical path out, and most “serious” findings are a few honest meetings away from fixed. We're on the same side as your board.

Will you try to sell us the fixes?

The report stands alone — most fixes are things your board can do itself, and the report says exactly how. If a fix maps to something we offer, we'll mention it once, plainly, with the price. No follow-up calls, ever.

We're tiny — five trustees, £30k income. Is this overkill?

The Code has a version written specifically for charities like yours, and that's what we score against. Small boards often get the most from the check — it's the closest thing to having a governance-savvy friend look over your shoulder.
